A mystery surrounds a box of fossilized Homo erectus bones lost during the war between China and Japan in the early 1940's. At the time, they were the oldest hominid fossils ever found and they made a loud statement to the scientific community about human evolution in Asia. The fossils became known as "Peking Man" and, if found (again), they could help shed light on a number of important questions including about the origin of human language.
